Search

The Search button displays a multi-box search form. This form has the following keyword boxes and a single check box. In the following examples, each search term is delimited with quotation marks. Do not use quotation marks in the actual search entry:

• Any Words: match at least one term. Enter “apple” and “orange” to find any topic that has either term.
• All Words: match every term. Enter “apple” and “orange” to find any topic that has both terms.
• Skip Words: find topics that do not match any term listed in the box. Enter “apple” and “orange” to find any page that does not contain either word.
• Partial Matches: check the Partial word matching check box to allow partial matches to terms. For example, enter “ion” in the Any Words box to return pages that contain the following:
• “ion”
• “ionic”
• “instruction”

  Searches on very common partials (such as “ion”) can take a long time and return unfocused result sets.

Clicking the Search button performs the search. Results are displayed as a list of topic titles. Click on any title to jump to that topic. In Internet Explorer, topics display with matching search terms highlighted. For example, if you search for apple, then matching topics would have every instance of the word “apple” highlighted.

Switching to the Contents or Index panes discards the search results.

Combine the three keyword boxes to make more specific searches. In particular, Skip Words can be used with one (or both) of the other boxes to screen out nonrelevant topics.

The search form does not allow phrasal searching (such as “green apple”). Instead, search for the word “green” and the word “apple” using the All Words box. The search results will show all topics that have both of these terms in the topic.
